SOLID HOUSE FOUNDATION

In 1987 the concern of the development of the world was expressed in the UN report “Our common future”. We have to develop our world in a much more sustainable way, which was defined as “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” In 2005 the UN extended the Sustainable development concept with three pillars; social development, environmental protection, and economic development, which now is widely known as the three P’s People, Planet and Prosperity.

People
We believe it is vital that underprivileged people can develop themselves into independent individuals, who are aware of their own strength and possibilities. We work together with the target group and develop a programme based on their needs and desires, respecting their culture and social structure. They will be able to realize a more sustainable, healthier and safe habitat by improving their knowledge and skills and in this way SHF contributes to a better quality and more equal life for these people.

 Planet
In everyday life we use a lot of natural resources to feed us, mobilise us or organise our surroundings. Every project needs and uses resources to realise an improved habitat, like building materials, but also clean water and energy. Therefore we use local building material in a sustainable and ecological way. Analyse the possibilities to use alternative energy sources and make use of proofed concepts of sustainable water and sanitation solutions. In this way SHF contributes in meeting the needs of the present but also of future generations.

 Prosperity
Prosperity is the degree in which the needs with the available resources can be met. Our needs are often offered in the form of products (planet) or received services (people), which we give economic and/or social value. Therefore SHF finds it important that the target group invest in their own habitat improvement so they will be able to value it.  To improve the prosperity of these people SHF creates together with financial institutions a credit based housing product so the target group has the opportunity to improve their habitat.

SHF and SUSTAINABILITY
Solid House Foundation (SHF) wants to contribute to a sustainable development of a healthy and safe habitat filled with opportunities for vulnerable groups in developing countries. To realize this sustainable development a balance between People, Planet and Prosperity is necessary.

Bolivia
In Bolivia a credit based housing programme is developed to create a sustainable opportunity for lower income groups to invest in their own habitat improvement. The people will be actively involved in the programme to achieve sustainable commitment. The houses will be build with available sustainable local building materials as much as possible to protect the environment and stimulate local economy.
