Ownership means that the government of the beneficiary country and not the giving countries make decisions pertaining to policies, priorities and action plans. The poor countries receive thus more power of control as to the way in which the development-aid funds are spent.

In this way, a collective consciousness is formed, and responsibility can be shared and choices made on the basis of the group’s own principles and conditions. Through working together with the local population, they get the chance to finance the improvement of their own living conditions and become the owners of their lives and future.

Through baselines, meetings, and workshops SHF and partners listen to the wishes of the target group. Those wishes will, if possible, be integrated into the programme. Furthermore, through the cooperation with several Sudanese partners, the request of schools to improve their WASH and energy situations as well as ownership of the programme is guaranteed.
