Completion of the Inspector Eatham scheme
In spring 2008 SHF completed the Inspector Eatham development project in Sri Lanka after a three-year period. A total of 54 houses and a community centre were completed within an infrastructure of roads, electricity, water and sanitation. This project was successful in its own right and was well received by the people in Sri Lanka.While working on the scheme, we concluded that this type of short-term project does not completely match SHF’s vision for sustainable development. A period of three years is much too short to be able to achieve long-term goals as well, such as developing a community, entrepreneurship, achieving higher income and actual target group participation.
